I am pleased to announce that Crystal Tawney has joined the staff in the Dean’s Office as administrative assistant to the dean. Crystal may be reached at cdtawney@vt.edu  or 540-231-4152. She fills the role previously held by Sheila Norman.

Crystal joins us after five years as administrative assistant to the director/dean of the University Academic Advising Center and University Studies here at Virginia Tech. Her work in University Studies included managing the flow of information to and from the director/dean, university leadership, departments and stakeholders. She also assisted in the coordination of the university student orientation process. Prior to her time in University Studies, she assisted in the Pamplin College of Business (marketing department) and the College of Engineering and College of Arts and Sciences (development offices). She brings a wealth of administrative support experience to CALS.

Crystal and her family’s home life has close ties to agriculture, too, raising cattle and pigs, and recently adding 20 chickens. Crystal also enjoys working in her garden and canning the “fruits of her labor.”

Charlotte Maxwell – Goochland/Chesterfield Associate Extension Agent, ANR, effective May 25, 2015.  Maxwell received her B.S. degree from Virginia Tech in Poultry Sciences with a minor in Civic Agriculture and Food Systems. While at Virginia Tech she was a member of Virginia Tech Block and Bridle, and she also obtained her Pork Quality Assurance Certification. Last summer Maxwell was a summer intern with Extension in the Fluvanna County office. Maxwell will serve residents in both Goochland and Chesterfield Counties.  She can be reached at the Goochland office at 804-556-5841 or the Chesterfield office at 804-751-4401. Alani Adkins – Danville, Pittsylvania County, and Halifax County Associate Extension Agent, FCS, SNAP-Ed effective May 25, 2015.  Adkins received her M.S. and B.S. degrees from North Carolina A&T State University in Food and Nutritional Sciences.  While at NC A&T she was a research assistant in the School of Agriculture and also interned with their Cooperative Extension Program.  She also has her ServSafe Food Protection Manager certification.
