Lee Johnson, right, receives the 2013 Employee of the Year award from Dean Alan Grant.

Congratulations to Grover Lee Johnson, who was named Employee of the Year award at the recent CALS picnic.

Johnson, an information technologies and laboratory specialist in the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences, has been selected as the April employee of the month.

Johnson’s nominator praised him by saying that he “is the glue that holds together the department … The quantity of his work load and the range of activities associated with his position have increased every year, especially over the past decade as laboratory and technical support staff personnel have continually decreased. Yet the quality of Lee’s performance has consistently remained well above expectations.”

Johnson is the department’s resident computer expert, and when the departmental IT person retired last year, he took over those duties in addition to his laboratory work.

Praising his people management skills, Johnson’s nominator writes, “he coordinates the activities of multiple labs involving several scientists, visiting professors and post-docs, graduate students, and numerous undergraduates. …He is the exceedingly rare individual who is both liked and respected by literally everyone with whom he has worked.”
