2013 RFA for the IPM Enhancement Grants program

The Southern Integrated Pest Management Center announces the release of the 2013 request for applications for the IPM Enhancement Grants program. Proposals are due Monday, April 1, at 6 p.m. EST.

We have two ways to access the RFA: one through a webpage that give you more detail and the other by going to the proposal system where you can find the RFA and all of the forms.

BE SURE TO READ THE RFA CAREFULLY. It will indicate what forms you need and what information to include.

Project directors can apply for one of four project types:

  • Pest Management Strategic Plan (PMSP) — up to $8,000 per PMSP
  • Working Group — up to $30,000
  • Seed — up to $30,000
  • Capstone — up to $30,000

Projects are limited to one year, with a project end date no later than April 30, 2014.

2013 Special Priorities

Approximately half of available funds are targeted toward Seed, Capstone and Working Group proposals primarily addressing these priorities:

  • Herbicide resistant weed pests affecting important agronomic crops
  • The insect pest Megacopta cribraria, known as the kudzu bug
  • Stink bug pests in agronomic crops
  • The insect pest Spotted Wing Drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii
  • Residential IPM, including management of bed bugs, termites, fire ants and other pests as well as general IPM principles and techniques

Eligible applicants include private individuals and institutions, faculty and qualified staff of four-year universities, businesses, commodity organizations, and governmental and non-governmental organizations. The primary Project Director must be from within the Southern Region (Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, the U. S. Virgin Islands and Virginia); however, collaboration with individuals outside the region is acceptable.

PDs and Co-PDs who have previously been funded are eligible only if reports on previous projects are up to date. PDs of projects funded since 2008 by this program that do not show appropriate progress and/or termination reports in SIPMC’s online database are not eligible for funding. However, any PD or Co-PD who has not yet submitted a report may do so at any time until the proposal deadline to maintain eligibility.
