VT students compete in regional soil judging championship

The Virginia Tech Soil Judging team enjoys a break from practice in a sand quarry near Richmond, Ky.

Ruth Anderson led the Virginia Tech Soil Judging Team to a fifth-place finish at the Southeast Region Collegiate Soil Judging Contest held Oct. 8-11 at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. The VT students in the top 10 were: 1. Ruth Anderson; 8. Emily Baer; and 9. Austin Gardner. Virginia Tech placed more students in the top 10 than any other school and had six of the top 17 places. All eight students were in the top 26 out of 74 total students.
