Livestock industry to induct former faculty and alumni in Livestock Hall of Fame

“The Virginia Livestock Hall of Fame provides recognition for the leadership and contributions of outstanding people who have had a profound impact on the past, present, and future of the beef, dairy, swine, and sheep industries in Virginia,” said Scott Greiner, Livestock Hall of Fame committee member. “We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments of the 10 honorees from this year’s class. They join a distinguished group as members of the Hall of Fame.”

Six of the inductees have a connection to Virginia Tech. The 2012 inductees are:

  • Brubaker Brothers of Franklin County, Va.: Daniel W. Brubaker, dairyman; Galen B. Brubaker (1925-2012), dairyman; E. Cline Brubaker, 1966 Virginia Tech graduate and dairyman; and R. Emory Brubaker, 1952 Virginia Tech graduate, dairyman, and former manager of Select Sire Power
  • Fred S. Crittenden of Hardyville, Va., pork producer;
  • Arthur L. (Ike) Eller Jr. of Blacksburg, Va., 1955 and 1966 Virginia Tech graduate, professor emeritus of animal and poultry science, and former Virginia Cooperative Extension agent and animal scientist
  • Joseph P. Fontenot of Blacksburg, Va., professor emeritus of animal and poultry sciences at Virginia Tech
  • Reginald B. Reynolds of Troutville, Va., 1964 Virginia Tech graduate and former executive secretary of the Virginia Cattlemen’s Association
  • William H. McClure (1927-1991) of Staunton, Va., 1952 and 1961 Virginia Tech graduate and the first superintendent of Shenandoah Valley Agricultural Research and Extension Center
  • J.E. (Buncksey) Poore of Powhatan, Va., former livestock grader and supervisor of grading services for livestock marketing with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services

Established in 2009, the Virginia Livestock Hall of Fame bestows honor and recognition on outstanding Virginians who have made significant contributions to the state’s livestock industry and its people. The Virginia Cattlemen’s Association, Virginia Pork Industry Association, Virginia Sheep Producers Association, and Virginia State Dairymen’s Association have the opportunity to nominate living or deceased individuals to the Virginia Livestock Hall of Fame.
