Strawberry growers and sponsors are invited to the Virginia Beach Strawberry School and Trade Show, Feb. 22, at the Advanced Technology Center on the Tidewater Community College Campus in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach is the leading strawberry producing region in the state.
Since its inception as a program for local growers in 2003, the event has become one of the largest strawberry educational programs in the mid-Atlantic. Growers from Virginia, North Carolina, and Maryland, will attend the one-day program.
Barclay Poling, a retired small fruit specialist at North Carolina State University will lead the program with two sessions on strawberry production. Poling is one of the East Coast’s leading researchers and strawberry management specialists.
Charles Johnson, a plant pathologist and professor at Virginia Tech, will discuss plant diseases and control. Doug Edwards, an enforcement and field operations supervisor with the Virginia Department of Agriculture, will update growers on Virginia soil fumigation mitigation measures.
A large group of sponsors will display their products at the event as well.
