Meet Zach Horton. He knew he wanted to come to Virginia Tech from a young age — he just was unsure how he was going to pay for it. He came from a rural Virginia town where less than 20 percent of the people have a college degree. His family worked hard to pay bills, but didn’t have anything left to save for college. The day that Zach found out he received his scholarship to Virginia Tech, his parents cried tears of joy. They cried again when he earned his master’s and bachelor’s degrees in agricultural and applied economics in just five years.

None of it would have been possible without the scholarships he received, Zach said.
