Scholarships for Indonesian citizens to study abroad

Opportunities to Enroll Indonesian Students on Your Campus

Indonesia holds an important role in the world.  As the world’s fourth most populous country and the only Southeast Asian member in the G-20, Indonesia demonstrates that a large, Muslim-majority country can be secular, democratic, and economically vibrant.  Yet despite being an emerging power in a geopolitically important part of the world, relatively few American universities have academic partnerships in Indonesia.

Currently, Indonesia sends more than 40,000 students to other countries each year for university-level study.  Approximately 8,000 of those students enroll at U.S. institutions, the majority of whom are undergraduate students.  Separately, three major scholarship initiatives from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the World Bank, and the Indonesian government currently provide full funding to send Indonesian graduate students to select APLU-member universities.

  1. USAID’s PRESTASI Program

USAID funds PRESTASI (Program to Extend Scholarships to Achieve Sustainable Impacts) scholarships that largely, although not exclusively, fund Indonesian civil servants to pursue master degrees in technical fields relevant to the development plan set forth by the Indonesia government.  USAID is providing nearly $20 million to fund PRESTASI through 2018 to support scholarships that cover up to two years of tuition, fees, travel and living expenses.

For more information on the PRESTASI scholarships and what the funding covers, please click here.

  1. World Bank SPIRIT Scholarships

Since 2011, the World Bank has funded the SPIRIT (Scholarship Program for Strengthening the Reforming Institution) Scholarships focused on training Indonesia’s civil servants so they are better prepared and equipped for an evolving Indonesia.  Beginning next year, the World Bank will extend the program for another five-year period (2017-2023) and has committed more than $300 million to sponsor 2,000 civil servants to pursue up to two years of a master degree program or four years of a doctoral degree program abroad.  Scholarship funding covers travel and living expenses in addition to fully covering your institution’s published tuition and fees for up to two years of a master program or four years of a doctoral program.

To be eligible to enroll SPIRIT scholarship recipients, your graduate programs must be ranked in the top 400 globally by a major ranking system such as the Times Higher Education, QS, Shanghai, or U.S. News & World Report.

  1. The Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education

The Indonesian government has established a $1.4 billion Indonesian Endowment Fund for Education, commonly known as LPDP, which fully funds Indonesian graduate students to complete a two-year master program or four-year doctoral program at universities approved by the LPDP board.   Currently, 75 Indonesian graduate students are enrolled at U.S. universities through this program, but there is much room for growth.  Next year, more than 2,000 scholarships will be awarded for study outside of Indonesia.

Only institutions ranked as a top 200 global university and/or graduate program may enroll LPDP scholarship recipients.  LPDP generally refers to the following ranking systems to determine is eligible: the Times Higher Education, QS, Shanghai, or U.S. News & World Report.

For more detailed information on the LPDP scholarships and what the scholarship funding covers, please click here.

Scholarship for studying at Universidade Paulista, in São Paulo, Brazil

We wish to communicate to all interested candidates that there is a great opportunity to participate in a scholarship program offered by IBS Americas in partnership with UNIP – Universidade Paulista, in São Paulo, Brazil. UNIP is a private university interested in receiving students from all over the world, conveniently located near Paulista Avenue, one of the safest areas of the city, in the heart of one of the Latin America’s financial districts and home of the international community in São Paulo.

Because we are aware of the difficulties young professionals and students face when traveling abroad to study, our International Business School – IBS Americas – offers scholarships covering up to US$ 4,000 of the tuition fees together with extensive travel preparation and unparalled in-country support.

There has never been a better time to visit Brazil, the world’s fifth-largest country – and not just because the World Cup was held there last year and the Summer Olympics in 2016. Thanks to the growing strength of the economy, and the improved infrastructure required for the events, the country is safer and easier to travel around than ever before.

The American dollar (USD) is at its strongest level in years and now 35% stronger against the Brazilian currency (Real) than one year ago. This has made traveling to Brazil even easier.

Our intensive programs are taught exclusively in English (except Estrategia & Marketing para Países Emergentes, which is taught in Spanish). The four programs cover topics such as:

  • Strategy & Competitiveness;
  • Strategic and marketing aspects of conquering markets in low incoming countries;
  • Current Economic Scenario of Brazil and other emerging countries;
  • Global context of Agribusiness;
  • Innovation, Technology & Sustainability.

Together with guest speakers and company visits, students will gain knowledge about how to do business in Brazil and other emerging markets, as well as about the global power of Brazilian agribusiness. Programs are offered 3 times a year, as follows:

January: 2 weeks (Dates TBA)

July or August: 3 weeks (Dates TBA)

Students interested in transferring credits will be evaluated based on their final project presentation, final exam, class participation and class attendance. The final grade and the attendance rate will be available on the Transcripts Report.

All Sophomore and up or graduate students, regardless of grade point average, area of study, Portuguese Language background, citizenship or residency status are eligible and encouraged to apply.

This is a great opportunity to get to know Brazil, one of the newest economic powers in the world, while opening up new academic and professional horizons for you. Our last groups were composed of students from more than thirty-five different countries. You may also visit our YouTube channel, to watch testimonials from our students in Universidade Paulista.

How to participate? All interested candidates should contact my assistant, Mr. Julio Quadros, at julio.quadros@ibs-americas.com not later than March 27th of 2016, in order to receive an application form and all detailed information regarding the program.

Student Fellowships for 52nd AIARD Annual Conference

We are fortunate to once again offer the Future Leaders Forum, in conjunction with our 52nd AIARD Annual Conference, thanks to the support of USAID. This year’s application is online at http://www.aiard.org/student-fellowship-application.html

THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING APPLICATIONS is April 12, at 11:59 p.m., Pacific.  Fellowship recipients will be notified via email [shortly after selection process is completed on April 30].

The Association for International Agriculture and Rural Development administers this competitive fellowship program to provide partial financial support to students attending both: 1) the AIARD Annual Conference (June 5-7) and 2) the annual Future Leaders Forum in Washington, D.C. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to students who have a demonstrated interest in international agriculture and rural development issues and their solutions.

These fellowships are intended to enhance the students’ understanding and appreciation of issues and opportunities in international agriculture and rural development. The objectives of the program are to:

•    Facilitate student attendance and participation in the AIARD Annual Conference in Washington, DC.;
•    Broaden student vision and help build a broad array of social/cultural, economic and scientific skills required to become an effective 21st century professional in international agriculture and rural development; and
•    Facilitate career visioning and networking by providing a day and a half of visits to DC-based agencies, companies and organizations engaged in international agriculture and rural development;

Applications for scholarships are evaluated by an AIARD committee. As noted above, fellowships are intended to only partially cover expenses related to travel, lodging, registration fees and meals, so students receiving the fellowships will be responsible for obtaining additional funding to cover the total costs of participation.

This program is open to students attending US universities (both US citizens and foreign nationals) who are interested in international agricultural and rural development positions.
