Scholarship funding is available for CALS students planning a Virginia Tech-sponsored study abroad experience for winter session 19 or spring semester 19. To be eligible to receive a scholarship, students must be enrolled at Virginia Tech during time of travel.

A $1,000.00 scholarship for a current or future full-time student (as of Fall 2014) at a Virginia institution of higher education. Applicants must be closely associated with members of the Virginia Grain Producers Association (VGPA), including: members (or dependents of a member) in good standing of the VGPA, or an active employee (or dependent of an active employee), employed at least one year, by a member in good standing of the VGPA.

Each year the Virginia Poultry Federation and the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences at Virginia Tech offer scholarships to assist with the academic careers of students demonstrating an interest in poultry and its related industries. Last year approximately $11,000 was awarded to current and incoming students with a poultry interest in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
We are looking forward to reviewing the applications of many more promising students to be considered for this year’s awards. Scholarships will be awarded by letter, and recipients will be recognized at the Virginia Poultry Federation Youth Convention in Harrisonburg, VA and at the Department of Animal and Poultry Sciences Banquet. Scholarship funds will be available for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will again sponsor an animal nutrition scholarship-research program for six to eight College seniors in the 2014-15 academic year. The program, sponsored by the John Lee Pratt Foundation, will include a $3,000 scholarship for each recipient. Proposals must focus on research that supports and enhances scholarship in the area of animal nutrition.

2. Pratt Summer Internship
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will again sponsor an opportunity for up to three students to gain research skills through an internship program sponsored by the John Lee Pratt Foundation in summer 2014. The program will include a $3,000 scholarship for each student selected to participate in the internship. Proposals must focus on research that supports and enhances scholarship in the area of animal nutrition.

The Mary Blackwell Barnes Memorial Scholarship Overview
Virginia Women in Public Finance has a scholarship program that provides, annually, up to five recipients with a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to $5,000. The scholarship is named in honor of Mary Blackwell Barnes, a dedicated servant of public finance. Mary passed away in 2009 at the age of 44, but her memory lives on through the contributions she made to public finance in Virginia. The purpose of The Mary Blackwell Barnes Memorial Scholarship program is to:
1) Recognize enrolled female college or graduate level students who have exhibited scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills;
2) Encourage the consideration of careers in finance and, more specifically, public finance; and
3) Provide an opportunity for award recipients to meet women established in the public finance area and expose women to various career options and opportunities.
2014 VWPF Scholarship Application
Virginia Chapter AU of the P.E.O. Sisterhood is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships from the Jean B. Duerr Memorial Fund for women (undergraduate or graduate) who plan to attend, or are already enrolled in, an accredited college or university for the entire 2014-2015 academic year.
Awards of $2000 will be given to those applicants who best demonstrate academic achievement and community service. To be considered for an award an applicant must be a full time student and should have a minimum grade point average of 3.6. A full official transcript must be included with the application. College freshmen are required to also include their high school transcripts. Transfer students must include transcripts from prior colleges attended. Please note that it takes the registrar five to ten days to send transcripts; plan accordingly. Transcripts may be sent separately but must meet the same deadline as the application. Applications without transcripts will not be considered.

Applications must be postmarked by February 17, 2014 for Scholarships awarded for the 2014/2015 academic year. Please note that no applications, including those with February 17, 2014 postmarks, will be accepted after February 22, 2014. Scholarships will be awarded in late April. The application consists of three pages. Information and application forms may be copied as needed. Please note that the U.S. Postal Service should be used when sending the completed applications. Please do not send items via registered mail. Private carriers do not deliver to Post Office boxes. To be considered for college-level and departmental scholarships, students must submit the scholarship application by the March 1, 2014 deadline.
In addition, students who wish to be considered for college and departmental scholarships are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A majority of the college and departmental scholarships are based on financial need, and only students with documented financial need will be considered for those scholarships. The 2014-2015 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will be available after January 1, 2014. The NPFDA (National Poultry & Food Distributors Association) Scholarship Foundation is entering its 35th year of scholarship assistance. Every year, four $1,500.00 scholarships are awarded to students in the fields of poultry science, food science, agricultural economics/marketing, and all other areas of study related to the poultry industry.
Interested students may apply for the 2014-2015 academic year scholarships by completing the attached application and sending it along with a 1 or 2 page letter explaining their career goals. The student or the department will then need to forward the application, goals, transcripts, and an endorsement of the student to the NPFDA Scholarship Foundation.
The application, transcript and letter of endorsement must reach the NPFDA office no later than May 31, 2014.
