Agricultural Sciences Internships at Walt Disney World

disney internshipThe Disney Agricultural Sciences team is looking for undergraduate college students and recent graduates who have received their Bachelor’s degree within 6 months of our internships’ start dates to participate in our fun and challenging six-month hands-on internship in several different agricultural and science education fields including Plant Science, Entomology, Biotechnology, and Aquaculture.

We are currently looking for students to fill internships for the Spring 2015 term (January 2015 – June 2015).  The deadline to apply will be in late September, but please apply as soon as possible to get the process started.

Desired majors include but are not limited to:  Ag. Communication, Ag. Education, Agribusiness, Agriculture, Agronomy, Aquaculture, Aquatic Biology, Biology, Biotechnology, Botany, Crop Science, Biological and Biosystems/Agricultural Engineering, Entomology, Environmental Horticulture, Fisheries, Food Science, Horticulture, Landscape Design, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Ornamental Horticulture, and Plant Science.

The Agricultural Sciences Professional Internship Program is designed to provide qualified college students with the opportunity for hands-on work experience in the unique growing areas that are part of Living with The Land, an agricultural attraction at Epcot®.

Responsibilities:

In addition to maintaining the show quality of our growing areas, aquaculture systems or biotechnology lab, interns will spend a significant amount of time leading informative and interactive guest tours through our facilities along with promoting and selling these tours. Additional training sessions, classes and meetings will be scheduled throughout the semester. Other duties vary by discipline:

Aquaculture:

Operate a recirculating freshwater aquaculture facility. Monitor filtration systems and water quality, assist in diagnosis and control of disease, and raise fish to marketable size for Walt Disney World® restaurants.

 

Biotechnology:

Maintain a tissue culture production facility. Prepare media and culture a wide variety of plants. Then, collect, package and deliver the tissue-cultured plants to Epcot® merchandise locations.

 

Entomology:

Become an integral part of The Land’s Integrated Pest Management program. Rear and maintain insect colonies, release beneficial insects into greenhouse crops, and maintain entomology-related shows.

 

Plant Science:

Maintain a high-quality show of hydroponically-grown food crops from around the globe. Seed, transplant, irrigate and prune plants; harvest produce for Epcot® restaurants; rake, sweep, and provide general cleanup of greenhouses.

Mt. Cuba Center Internship Program

mtcubaMt. Cuba Center is currently accepting applications for seven paid summer internship positions at Mt. Cuba Center.  These internships are intended for students who are interested in working with and studying native plants.

Mt. Cuba Center is a non-profit horticultural institution in northern Delaware located on nearly 600 acres.  Mt. Cuba Center inspires an appreciation for the beauty and value of native plants, and a desire to protect the environments that sustain them.  Our woodland
wildflower gardens are recognized as the region’s finest.

Our Summer Internship program encompasses both practical hands-on experiences with professionals and plant studies through course work.  Students complete the internship knowing how to identify native plants, how they grow and how to incorporate them in the landscape.  Students spend time both in the field and classroom.  Free housing is provided on site.

2 Internship Opportunities with Aldermere Farm

Alderemere Farm has two internship opportunities this summer.  One is livestock and ag. ed. focused and is located at Aldermere Farm. The other opportunity is a vegetable operation also with ag. ed. and is located atthe Erickson Fields Preserve. Both properties are in Rockport, Maine!

Agritourism Internship

Fulper Family Farmstead LLC, located in Lambertville, NJ, is currently looking for a qualified individual to fill the Agritourism Internship position for the Summer of 2014. The qualified applicant will assist in a variety of areas, including, but not limited to:

–       Summer camp program, farm tours, birthday parties, and dairy product marketing.  Management of the agritourism programs including program planning, sales, marketing, and excellent customer service.

–       Supervise and participate with groups of youth in a variety of outdoor activities, including water games, arts/crafts, milking cows, leading, clipping, and washing calves.

–       Work as a team with camp counselors.

–       Collect and verify required certifications and paperwork for all counselors and camp participants.

–       Promote Fulper Farms to the public by selling dairy products at local farmers markets.  Manage social media and write weekly blog articles.

 

• The internship will run from June 1st-August 15th, 2014. Dates are relatively flexible, depending on when the chosen individual finishes and begins school

• Intern will be paid an hourly wage, at $9/hour

• Intern may choose to find his or her own housing, but will be responsible for covering all rent costs

VSGC-logoThe Virginia Space Grant Consortium (VSGC) and its partners, in collaboration with Virginia’s colleges and community colleges, are offering the Commonwealth STEM Industry Internship Program (CSIIP). CSIIP is a free resource for finding paid spring, summer, and fall internships. CSIIP provides an online system where undergraduate students majoring in science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) disciplines at Virginia universities, colleges and community colleges complete a single application package that will be reviewed by companies throughout Virginia. There is no cost to students, universities, or companies to participate.
