Undergraduate students at Virginia Tech in all fields are invited to submit a poem to The Steger Poetry Prize contest, established by President Emeritus Charles W. Steger and University Distinguished Professor Nikki Giovanni. The first place prize is $1,100. The second place prize is $500 and third place is $300. The prize is administered by Professor Giovanni and judged by a committee of faculty from various disciplines at the university.
Please read these instructions carefully. Submissions that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered for the Steger Poetry Prize.
Deadline: Friday, March 17th (by 11:59 pm).
Scholarship funding is available for CALS students planning a Virginia Tech-sponsored study abroad experience for summer and fall 17. To receive a scholarship, students must be enrolled at Virginia Tech during time of travel.

- A brief statement (250 words or less) relating the trip to your program of study
- A breakdown of expenses and other sources of funding
- A brief statement (250 words or less) explaining the long-term value of travel to your career goals
